Offline messages make amsn crash

Introduction:
Old amsn release crash while we attempt to read offline messages (at the login, after press “yes” button in the alert pop-up).

Solution:
This bug is fixed in svn version. Anyway, may be enough disable tabbed chats.

Preferences -> Session, scroll down to “How to handle multiple message windows” and select “Normal windows without tabs

Come installare Scim su Xandros

Introduzione
Scrivo questa guida per spiegare come installare il Chinese input-method (scim) su Xandros (eee pc versione 4G).

Installazione
Per prima cosa, installiamo il supporto per la lingua cinese (caratteri semplificati).
Launch -> Application -> System -> Synaptic
Semplicemente, cerca “cn” e segna i seguenti pacchetti dal risultato della ricerca:

keyboardmap-zh-cn kde-i18n-zhcn libxandroskbmap0-qt4 asus-launcher-zh-cn keyboardmap keyboardmap-dialog firefox-locale-zh-cn asus-launcher-update-2-zh-cn openoffice.org-l10n-zh-cn openoffice.org-help-zh-cn keyboardmap-dialog-zh-cn

Ok, installa i pacchetti marcati.

Poi, installiamo Scim!
In synaptic, cerca “scim” e seleziona:

libchewing3-data scim-modules-table scim-chewing scim-tables-zh scim-modules-socket scim libscim8c2a scim-gtk2-immodule libchewing3 im-switch xandros-scim scim-bridge-agent scim-pinyin scim-chinese scim-bridge-client-gtk

Ok, l’installazione è conclusa. Ora puoi riavviare Kde (ctrl + alt + backspace) e cominciare ad usare Scim!

Usare Google Talk con Kopete

Aprire Kopete, poi scegliere

Settings -> Configure

Cliccare sulla scheda Accont e poi sul pulsante New. Selezionare Jabber dalla lista.


Cliccare Next e riempire i campi con le proprie informazioni personali


Nella scheda Connection, inserire le seguenti informazioni:

Server: talk.google.com
Port: 5223
Risorsa: Kopete
Priority: 2


Ok, ora è possibile salvare il proprio account ed essere in grado di collegarsi al network di Gtalk.

Open Kopete, then click

Settings -> Configure

Click on Accont label and than on New button. Select Jabber from the list.


Click Next and fill forms with your personal informations


In Connection label, fill with the following informations:

Server: talk.google.com
Port: 5223
Risorsa: Kopete
Priority: 2


ok, now you can save your new account and you are able to connect to Gtalk network.

How to install Scim on Xandros

Introduction
I’m writing this tutorial to explain how to install the Chinese input method (scim) on Xandros (eee pc 4G version).

Installation
First, let’s install the Chinese (simplified character) language support.
Launch -> Application -> System -> Synaptic
Simply search “cn” and mark from the result the following packets:

keyboardmap-zh-cn kde-i18n-zhcn libxandroskbmap0-qt4 asus-launcher-zh-cn keyboardmap keyboardmap-dialog firefox-locale-zh-cn asus-launcher-update-2-zh-cn openoffice.org-l10n-zh-cn openoffice.org-help-zh-cn keyboardmap-dialog-zh-cn

Ok, now you can install marked items.

Then, let’s install Scim!
In synaptic, search for “scim” and select:

libchewing3-data scim-modules-table scim-chewing scim-tables-zh scim-modules-socket scim libscim8c2a scim-gtk2-immodule libchewing3 im-switch xandros-scim scim-bridge-agent scim-pinyin scim-chinese scim-bridge-client-gtk

Ok, the installation is finished. Now, simply reboot Kde (ctrl + alt + backspace) and you can start using Scim!


How to install Chinese input method in Kubuntu 8.04

Installation
K menu -> System settings -> Regional & Language


Click on “Install New Language”, than select “Chinese” and press “install”. Wait for the packages download and installation.


Re-order the language list putting English (or you favourite language) on top of the list.
Click “apply” and exit the application.

Open a terminal and type:

im-switch -z all_ALL -s scim-bridge

Close the terminal, and open skim:
K menu -> Utilites -> Skim

Right click the SKIM icon in your taskbar and select Configuration -> General SCIM -> Other
Under the ‘Panel Program’ dropdown, select ‘scim-panel-kde’, under the ‘Config Module’ dropdown, select ‘kconfig’


Restart KDE: Ctrl + Alt + Backspace

EasyTag: a tool to rename mp3 files based on ID3 tag

Installation:
$ sudo apt-get install easytag

Use:

  1. Make sure all your files are selected.
  2. Click on the green Scan Files icon.
  3. In the new window, select Rename File and Directory in the scanner drop down list.
  4. Set the rename field to show %a – %t (or following your needs)
  5. Click the green icon next to the scanner drop down.
  6. Click on the Exit icon.
  7. Click on the Save Files icon.
  8. Click Yes on the confirmation prompts

How to Auto-Fill MP3’s ID3 tags

Introduction:
I didn’t find any programs able to fill all ID3 tags of our mp3 collection in a totally automatic way yet. But… EasyTAG can catch information for us, we only have to confirm its suggestions.

Installation:
$ sudo apt-get install easytag

Use:

  1. Open EasyTAG and navigate to the album folder which contains the files you want to edit.
  2. Click the blue box icon to select all files.
  3. Click the CD icon for Search CDDB.
  4. Click on Find in the window that comes up.
  5. Select the correct album from the search results.
  6. Click the blue Select All icon.
  7. Click the Apply button.
  8. Click the Close button
  9. Click on the Save Files icon.
  10. Click Yes on the confirmation prompts
